Microsoft and the Unsettling States
Why do we have to go through this lawyer-profittering nonsense? Frankly, I don’t care anymore whether IE is integrated with Windows. But please, please, please, lets stop Microsoft using the same tactics with Media Player, web services, .NET/Java, and all the other emerging markets they’re trying to monopolize.
I can only hope that the EC will be more sensible and less influenced by economic concerns than the US. I doubt it though.
Oh, and open source Windows. Why? What possible good would it do to dump millions of lines of code into the free market and expect developers to want to play with it. Linux or Apache didn’t gain developers overnight, the community grew. But the Windows source code is far too large for anyone to be bothered with. We need to start thinking of preventative measures not retaliatory actions. What is done, is done. Undoing those action does nothing of benefit to the injured parties. Preventative measures will.
So let’s stop all this nonsense about breaking up Windows into thousands of modules and start thinking of solutions to train the Beast into behaving properly, legally, and competitively.
