I’ve finally published my article comparing the performance of three pure-Java, embedded databases and MySQL. Summary: HSQLDB is ridiculously fast and it will be replacing MySQL in my simulation.
I’ve submitted links to the article at TheServerSide and JavaLobby, so there might be some interesting discussions there (or there might not, we’ll see if anyone is interested).
This article is hosted in my new online notebook, which is powered by Textpattern. So far, so good.
I’ve updated the article a little to include HSQLDB’s CACHED tables.
In lieu of a trackback ping:
Nice work! This is very useful info.

hi jamie, i got to know ur blog from javalobby and i read ur article on HSQLDB. Anyway i am also using it fully in my application. My concern is do u have an idea of the size of records HSQLDB can scale to well. What are the implications as records grow larger say towards 50 million records
Hi Jamie, I would love to read about your database comparisons but the link appears broken.. could you fix it please?
Link still broken, would also be really interested in the results. However, “HSQLDB is ridiculously fast” is already quite useful.
Link fixed (but note that the graphs in the article are still missing)
