Lessons from a life of startups, coding, countryside, and kids
The launch of Royal Mail’s printable stamps caused some uproar because they won’t have the Queens head on them (they’re just machine-readable 2D barcodes). This reminded me of a presentation from the MIRW workshop at MobileHCI. Basically, Enrico started by talking about how much was lost in the move from pictorial stamps to 2D barcodes (“no one’s going to collect them”). He developed a machine-readable code that still kept some aesthetic element. At one stage, he showed a code for Media Lab Europe, and I questioned him about this afterwards — it turns out that he started about 2 weeks after I left!
